Each year, officials must complete the registration process for each of the national and state governing bodies that they wish to be eligible to officiate games for. Below are the details of the registration processes for each of these governing bodies.

To officiate USA Hockey games, you must register with USA Hockey each season.
2025-26 Season USA Hockey registration overview:

Visit the USA Hockey Learning Center
Attend a USA Hockey Virtual Classroom Seminar
Complete Online Education Video Modules
Complete Online Playing Rules Exercise
Complete SafeSport Training online (2008 birth year or older)
Complete a USA Hockey background check (18 years old or older on May 1, 2025)
Official's registration ends on November 20, 2025
If you register late in the season, make sure that you are prepared to complete all the registration requirements immediately.
All requirements must be complete by December 15, 2025
USA Hockey officiating registration expires December 1 each season.
To officiate High School games (WIAA), you must register with the WIAA.

WIAA games begin in late November. CWHOA starts WIAA game assigning in September.
