There are many reasons to become an official:
Growing your knowledge of the game from a new perspective
Pay starts at $35/game
Learn new leadership skills and become a vocal leader
Give back to the hockey community
Have fun with your friends and meet new people
New officials are assigned for mainly 10U (“squirt”) and 12U (“peewee”) games, with an experienced official. We want every official to succeed and enjoy the games that they work. Whenever possible new officials will be assigned with an experienced official.
To maximize the likelihood to be assigned games, officials should to submit as much availability as possible at times when there are appropriate games for their age and experience. This gives the assigner as many options as possible to assign games for new officials. Unlike some other sports, we won’t assign officials to games just to fill slots, we try very hard to assign officials to appropriate games with the right partner.
